The Butcher’s Diary – Shiralee Update

Hi Everyone,

I want to let you all know what is going on for Shiralee…..

Over the last few months we have taken over the factory next door to us to expand our production space for our wholesale business. We are currently supplying product for sale at Forestway Fresh, Taste Organics, One Table, Mrs Watson’s and Little Bay Organics, as well as supplying select cafe’s and restaurants (see here).

This new space also has a brand new commercial kitchen, from which we will be producing ready-to-eat organic meals for you to take home under our new brand The Organic Food Society. If you have tried our yummy broths in the shop the last few weeks then you have already had one of our new products. We are selling this broth in jars as well, and it is the recipe base for most of our take home meals – including the dinner pies you’ve seen this week. This is a great way to get broth into the kids.

We will soon be kicking off our classes again – I’ll be doing butchery classes, and we will have some of our associated Health & Wellness Professionals running nutrition classes. Maybe some kids classes, and cooking classes too. Let us know what you want to learn.

Now onto the shop. We are evolving – and the changes have started to take shape, with painting and signage, but there is a lot more to come. We will be making some more room in the shop front which will give us space for a little cafe and some seating, so you can pop in and have a bite to eat whilst you pick up your shopping, or take something hot back to work at lunchtime. We have also been adding new innovative meat items and products – which will continue.

As most of you know we have been growing our little family team to a much bigger team the last few months. So alongside Dad, Donna, Moe and I we now have Toni from New Zealand – she is a chef and handy with the knife (and clearly knows her lamb), Patrick – our new German butcher (who has been creating the new lines in bratwurst and braun), Emma – who manages our marketing & social media, and is a bit of a foodie herself, and Mikala – our new shop assistant (and Dave and Donna’s niece).

We couldn’t do any of this without you – our customers – so thanks for coming in every week. We look forward to seeing you in the shop and having a chat – so let us know what you think. Cheers Dave.
